“Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.” (Exodus 17: 15). Yahweh + Havah = JEHOVAH = LORD = “Panginoon” = The Eternal God who is constantly revealing Himself to us.

Around 1450 BC, the Israelites – mostly brick-makers – being very tired from their 400 years of captivity in Egypt, were encamped in the dessert. Suddenly, the battle-tested, organized and fully-armed Amalekite army attacked them.

In a classic battle that ensued, as long as Moses, the Israelites’ leader who positioned himself on top of a hill, held up in his hands the staff of God and prayed, the Israelites were winning. But whenever Moses lowered his arms, the Amalekites were winning.

When Moses really got tired, his companions – Aaron and Hur – took a stone for him to sit on. Then, Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ hands – one on one side, one on the other side – so that his hands remained steady and up until sunset. Thus, with the LORD’s help, Joshua, the Israelites’ army commander, overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. And “Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.” (Exodus 17: 8-15).

We all have and wage battles, isn’t it? Drug addiction. Alcoholism. Pornography. Unbridled Tongue. Raging Temper. Various Temptations. Sour Business Deals. Others.

Right now, what is your biggest battle? Who or what is your greatest enemy? Do you fight this crucial battle with your own strength?

You see, in any battle, the key to victory is not the wisdom of your strategy nor the power of your enemy. Rather, like what Moses experienced, it lies on the Source of your strength: JEHOVAH – NISSI.

Internally, there will always be conflict between our moral values and our sinful nature. Externally, even if we’re not aware of it, there’s a continuous battle between the forces of darkness and the armies of the Light to take hold of our minds and lives. But take heart, for Believers, our victory, though not immediate, is ultimately assured when we draw on JEHOVAH – NISSI and His resources.

Did you know that the LORD Jesus Christ is our JEHOVAH – NISSI who will ultimately lead us to our victory over Sin, Death, Satan and Hell – the crucial battles of our lives? (1 Corinthians 15: 42-56).

Now, have you trusted in JEHOVAH – NISSI for your ultimate victory – you in Heaven with God someday, forever and ever? If so, have you shared the LORD Jesus Christ to your loved ones and friends so that they will also be assured of their respective ultimate victory? Why not?
