THE LAW IS HOLY, RIGHTEOUS AND GOOD, BUT AT BEST IT WAS ONLY ABLE TO PRODUCE SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS. EQUAL TO THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE PHARISEES AND THE TEACHERS OF THE LAW. FOR THIS REASON JESUS SAID, “UNLESS YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS SURPASSES THAT OF THE PHARISEES AND THE TEACHERS OF THE LAW, YOU WILL CERTAINLY NOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.”
(Mat 5:20) “For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”
ACCORDING TO THE GOSPEL OF GOD’S GRACE, REVEALED BY CHRIST TO THE APOSTLE PAUL, THERE IS A “RIGHTEOUSNESS” FROM GOD THAT IS RECEIVED BY FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST.
(Rom 1:17) For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
YOU SEE. WHEN CHRIST CAME, HE FULFILLED ALL THE RIGHTEOUS REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW IN US.
(Rom 8:3-4) “For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.”
FOR THIS REASON, THE LAW ENDED WHEN CHRIST FULFILLED ALL THE RIGHTEOUS REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW IN US AND MEDIATED A NEW COVENANT WITH THE FATHER FOUNDED ON BETTER PROMISES.
(Rom. 10:4) “Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”
(Heb 8:6-7) “But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.”
BEAR IN MIND THAT THE LAW IS A COVENANT; THE OLD COVENANT.
(Deu 4:13) He declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets.
GOD IMPUTED ALL OUR SINS IN CHRIST’S BODY ON THE CROSS AND RECEIVED GOD’S RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION AND PUNISHMENT FOR ALL OUR SINS. WHEN GOD WAS SO PLEASED AND SATISFIED WITH THE PUNISHMENT CHRIST RECEIVED FOR OUR SINS, GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS DEMANDS ACQUITTAL AND FORGIVENESS FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST; GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS DEMANDS THAT ALL WHO BELIEVE IN CHRIST BE MADE RIGHTEOUS. THUS WE ARE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN CHRIST!
(2Co 5:21) “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
WE ARE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN CHRIST!
