IT IS TRUE THAT CHRIST DID NOT COME TO DESTROY THE LAW, BUT TO FULFILL THEM. (Mat 5:17) “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
IN FACT, HE CAME AND FULFILLED ALL THE RIGHTEOUS REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW IN US. IN OTHER WORDS, HE PAID WHAT WE CANNOT PAY AND FULFILLED WHAT WE CANNOT FULFILL.
(Rom 8:3-4) “For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.”

HOWEVER, WHEN GOD WAS PLEASED WITH THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST’S BODY ON THE CROSS, GOD HIMSELF WAS THE ONE WHO CANCELED THE LAW AND NAILED IT IN THE CROSS.
(Col 2:13b- 14) “He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.”

ANOTHER REASON WHY GOD ANNULLED THE LAW WAS BECAUSE OF ITS WEAKNESS AND UNPROFITABLENESS, FOR IT MADE NOTHING PERFECT.
(Heb 7:18) “For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.”

NOTE: THE “LAW” IS ALSO A COVENANT; THE OLD COVENANT!
(Deu 4:13) “He declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets.”

WHEN GOD CANCELED OR ANNULLED THE LAW, HIS INTENTION WAS TO BRING IN A NEW HOPE; HIS PROMISED “NEW COVENANT”.
(Heb 8:7-9) “For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said: “The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.”

WHEN CHRIST FULFILLED ALL THE RIGHTEOUS REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW IN US, GOD CUT A NEW COVENANT OF GRACE WITH CHRIST AND MADE HIM THE MEDIATOR OF IT.
(Heb 8:6) “But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.”

FOR THIS REASON THE LAW AS A COVENANT HAS TO END FOR GOD TO RELEASE THE “GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS” BY FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS.
(Rom 10:4) “Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”

IN FACT, THE BIBLE SAYS THAT THOSE WHO RECEIVED THE “ABUNDANT PROVISION OF GRACE” AND THE “GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS” REIGN IN LIFE THROUGH CHRIST.
(Rom 5:17) “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

THE “TEN COMMANDMENTS” AS GOD’S “MORAL LAW” REMAINS; IT WILL BE THE STANDARD GOD WILL USE IN JUDGING THE UNBELIEVING WORLD SO THAT THEY MAY BE FOUND GUILTY BEFORE HIM.
(Rom 3:19) “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”

BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNDER GRACE (NEW COVENANT) SIN CANNOT EXERCISE DOMINION OVER THEM.
(Rom 6:14-15) “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? CERTAINLY NOT!”
