ON THE DAY CHRIST WAS RESURRECTED, WE FIND HIM WALKING WITH TWO OF HIS DISCIPLES ON THE ROAD GOING TO A VILLAGE CALLED EMMAUS (Luke 24:1-26). NOT FOR LONG, HE ENDED UP CONDUCTING A SORT OF BIBLE STUDY WITH THEM AND EXPLAINED WHAT WAS SAID IN ALL THE OLD TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES CONCERNING HIMSELF. (Luke 24:27) “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”
BEAR IN MIND THAT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AFTER CHRIST’S RESURRECTION, BELIEVERS DID NOT HAVE THE WRITTEN NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES TO STUDY AND BASE THEIR FAITH ON. THE LORD KNEW THAT FOR A TIME, BELIEVERS WILL USE THE OLD TESTAMENT AND FOR THIS REASON, HE TOOK TIME TO EXPLAIN WHAT WAS SAID IN ALL THE SCRIPTURES CONCERNING HIMSELF. (Luke 24:27) “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”
AS A PASTOR, IF EVER I USE THE OLD TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES AS THE MAIN TEXT FOR MY SERMON, MY PRAYER IS, FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT TO UNVEIL CHRIST IN IT. AFTER ALL, THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ALWAYS CHRIST-CENTERED AND CHRIST-EXALTING.
(John 15:26) “When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, HE WILL TESTIFY ABOUT ME.
(John 16:13-14) But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. HE WILL NOT SPEAK ON HIS OWN; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. HE WILL BRING GLORY TO ME by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
TODAY WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE THE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES. ESPECIALLY THE GOSPEL OF GOD’S GRACE THAT WAS REVEALED BY CHRIST TO THE APOSTLE PAUL.
(Gal 1:11-12) “I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.”
(Act 20:24) “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”
