PAUL WHO WAS THEN CALLED SAUL (THE NUMBER ONE PERSECUTOR OF THE CHURCH) WAS ON HIS WAY TO DAMASCUS (Acts 9:1-30) HAD AN ENCOUNTER WITH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.
(Act 26:14) And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
(Act 26:15) So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
(Act 26:16) But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.
(Act 26:17) I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,
(Act 26:18) to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
PAUL WAS SPECIFICALLY WAS CALLED TO BE AN APOSTLE TO THE GENTILES
(Rom 11:13-14) “For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them.”
THE APOSTLE PAUL WAS APPOINTED TO BE A HERALD AND AN APOSTLE AND A TEACHER OF TRUE FAITH TO THE GENTILES.
(1Tim 2:7) And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
PAUL WAS THE RECIPIENT OF THE GOSPEL OF GOD’S GRACE.
(Gal 1:11-12) “I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.”
IN FACT HE SPENT THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN PREACHING THE GOSPEL OF GOD’S GRACE TO THE GENTILES.
(Act 20:24) However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the Gospel of God’s Grace.
TO PRESERVE THE INTEGRITY OF THE GOSPEL REVEALED FROM CHRIST, PAUL PRONOUNCED AN ANATHEMA TO WHOEVER PREACHES A GOSPEL OTHER THEN THE ONE HE PREACHED.
(Gal 1:8) But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
(Gal 1:9) As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
WE ALSO KNOW THAT THE TWELVE APOSTLES DID NOT LEARN THE DOCTRINE OF GRACE FROM CHRIST WHEN HE WAS WITH THEM.
(John 16:12) I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
(John 16:13) But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
IN FACT IT TOOK MORE THAN A DECADE WHEN GOD ASKED THE APOSTLE PAUL TO GO TO JERUSALEM AND SHARE THE GOSPEL OF GRACE TO THE APOSTLES AND ELDERS OF THE MOTHER CHURCH.
(Gal 2:1-2a) “Then fourteen years later I went back to Jerusalem again, this time with Barnabas; and Titus came along, too. I went there because God revealed to me that I should go. While I was there I met privately with those considered to be leaders of the church and shared with them the message I had been preaching to the Gentiles.”
THE GOSPEL OF GOD’S GRACE IS WHAT OUR FAITH OBEYS UNDER THE NEW COVENANT.
(Rom 16:25-26) “Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith”
HE ALSO SAID THAT SOUND DOCTRINE CONFORMS TO THE GLORIOUS GOSPEL OF THE BLESSED GOD WHICH HE ENTRUSTED TO HIM. OBEDIENCE TO THE DOCTRINE OF GOD’S GRACE SETS YOU FREE FROM SIN AND MAKES YOU SLAVE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS.
(1Tim 1:10-11) “for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.”
TO THE BELIEVERS IN PHILIPPI, THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID:
(Php 4:9) Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
OBEDIENCE TO THE DOCTRINE OF GOD’S GRACE SETS YOU FREE FROM SIN AND MAKES YOU SLAVE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS.
(Rom 6:17) But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
(Rom 6:18) And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
MANY OF OUR PULPITS TODAY ARE IN TO MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING; PREACHING WHAT PEOPLE’S ITCHING EARS WANT TO HEAR RATHER THAN THE TRUTH THAT UNVEILS CHRIST; HIS GLORY, HIS LOVE, HIS GRACE, HIS NEW COVENANT, HIS FINISHED WORK ON THE CROSS AND ALL THE BENEFITS THEREOF.
(2Ti 4:3) For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
(2Ti 4:4) They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS!
