MANY DO NOT REALIZE THAT GOD IN HIS WISDOM CRUCIFIED US WITH CHRIST SO THAT THE BODY OF SIN MIGHT BE DONE AWAY WITH. BECAUSE WE DIED WITH HIM, WE HAVE BEEN SET FREE FROM SIN.
(Rom 6:6-7) “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.”
THROUGH CHRIST’S BODY, WE BECAME “DEAD TO THE LAW” THAT WE MAY BE MARRIED TO CHRIST AND BEAR FRUIT TO GOD.
(Rom 7:4-5) “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become “DEAD TO THE LAW” through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.”
BY DYING TO WHAT ONCE BOUND US, WE HAVE BEEN “RELEASED FROM THE LAW” SO THAT WE SERVE IN THE NEW WAY OF THE SPIRIT AND NOT IN THE OLD WAY OF THE WRITTEN CODE.
(Rom 7:6-8) “But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been RELEASED FROM THE LAW so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. What shall we say, then? IS THE LAW SIN? CERTAINLY NOT! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. FOR I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN WHAT COVETING REALLY WAS IF THE LAW HAD NOT SAID, “DO NOT COVET.” But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead.
BEING RELEASED FROM THE LAW IS NECESSARY BECAUSE SIN GETS ITS STRENGTH FROM THE LAW; FOR APART FROM LAW, SIN IS DEAD.
(1Cor 15:56) “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.”
NOTE: THE LAW THAT THE APOSTLE PAUL WAS REFERRING TO IN CHAPTER SEVEN OF THE BOOK OF ROMANS THAT WE DIED TO AND RELEASED FROM IS THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AND NOT THE JEWISH CEREMONIAL LAW.
ALTHOUGH IN CHRIST, WE ARE “DEAD TO THE LAW” AND “RELEASED FROM THE LAW”, IT DOES NOT GIVE US THE LICENSE TO VIOLATE GOD’S MORAL LAW. YOU SEE, UNDER GRACE, WE ARE GUIDED BY THE ROYAL LAW OF LOVE. (John 13:34) “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
FURTHERMORE, WE ARE ADMONISHED TO:
DO EVERYTHING IN LOVE (1Cor 16:14);
TO SERVE ONE ANOTHER IN LOVE (Gal 5:13) AND
TO WALK IN LOVE (Eph 5:2).
SO IN ESSENCE, UNDER GRACE, WE STILL UPHOLD THE LAW. FOR LOVE IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW. (Rom 13:10) “Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS!
