WITHOUT A DOUBT, JERUSALEM IS PRECIOUS IN GOD’S SIGHT. HOWEVER, GOD ALLOWED THE DESTRUCTION OF IT IN AD 70 BECAUSE THEY DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE TIME OF THEIR VISITATION; THEY DID NOT RECOGNIZE CHRIST’S COMING TO THEM.
(Luke 19:41) “As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it
(Luke 19:42) and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.
(Luke 19:43) The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.
(Luke 19:44) They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”
THE SIEGE OF JERUSALEM in the year 70 AD was the decisive event of the First Jewish–Roman War. The Roman army, led by the future Emperor Titus, with Tiberius Julius Alexander as his second-in-command, besieged and conquered the city of Jerusalem, which had been occupied by its Jewish defenders in 66.
The siege ended with the sacking of the city and the destruction of its famous Second Temple. The destruction of both the first and second temples is still mourned annually as the Jewish fast Tisha B’Av. The Arch of Titus, celebrating the Roman sack of Jerusalem and the Temple, still stands in Rome. source: www.wikipedia.com
THE TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM HAD TO BE DESTROYED BECAUSE CHRIST’S PRECIOUS BLOOD OFFERED IN HEAVEN’S HOLY OF HOLIES WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN AN ETERNAL REDEMPTION.
(Heb 9:12) “He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.”
FURTHERMORE, CHRIST BECAME THE MEDIATOR OF A NEW COVENANT OF GRACE FOUNDED ON BETTER PROMISES. (Heb 8:6) “But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.”
GOD’S PROMISED NEW COVENANT HAS ALREADY BEEN PUT IN EFFECT!
(Heb 8:7) For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.
(Heb 8:8) But God found fault with the people and said: “The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
(Heb 8:9) It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.
HERE ARE TWO OF THE MAJOR CLAUSES OF THE NEW COVENANT.
(Heb 8:12) “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more.”
(2Cor 1:20) “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
MANY DO NOT REALIZE THAT THE “LAW” (OLD COVENANT) ENDED WHEN CHRIST MEDIATED A NEW COVENANT OF GRACE WITH THE FATHER. YOU SEE, THE LAW HAS TO END FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS TO BE GIVEN BY FAITH!
CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW SO THAT RIGHTEOUSNESS MAY BE GIVEN BY FAITH!
(Rom 10:4) “Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”
