“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.” (Psalm 23: 1).
Yahweh + Havah = JEHOVAH = LORD = “Panginoon” = The Eternal God who is constantly revealing Himself to us
“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalm 23: 1-4, 6).
This psalm or song was composed by David – considered as Israel’s greatest king. However, in one episode of his life, David broke 5 of the 10 Commandments of God: He saw a married woman, Bathsheba, bathing and he covets her; He stole Bathsheba from her rightful husband, Uriah, one of David’s able generals; He committed adultery with her; He murdered Uriah; and then, He lied to cover up his crimes.
However, when Nathan, the godly prophet, confronted and rebuked powerful King David of his sins, he repented. David asked God for mercy and he was totally forgiven. To date, David is known as “a man after God’s own heart”.
Did you know that Jesus Christ (the Root of David as God and the Son of David as Man) is the Good Shepherd who gave his life for his sheep? (John 10: 11). He did it, so that you and I may have eternal life with God in Heaven someday. As our model for leading by love, Jesus Christ is JEHOVAH-RAAH who is faithfully and truly shepherding His flock – Believers – in this world.
Like sheep, many of us are meek, affectionate, unaggressive, defenseless, and in constant need of supervision and care.
However, when we accepted resurrected Jesus Christ as the Savior of our soul and LORD of our life, an amazing, life-changing relationship begun. And God’s grace-filled promises are made available for us: God will never leave us nor forsake us; He will provide everything we need; He will heal our infirmities; and there’s nothing we can do to stop His unconditional love for us as God’s adopted children.
Unfortunately, we are still in this sin-fallen world and will experience hurts, trials and tribulation. But then, one day, all of these will come to an end and we’ll experience a pain-free and love-filled life in Heaven, forever and ever.
Now, while we’re still here on earth, our newfound Father-Child relationship with God comes with a responsibility and commitment to love God and our neighbor. This we do by reaching out in love to those who still don’t know Jesus Christ.
And as we are being transformed by Jesus’ Spirit, out of love, we are eager to share that this broken world is not all there is to life. Why? Because for all Believers, someday, there’s surely be Heaven with God – the ultimate unending love, joy, prosperity, and peace – that is waiting for us. To God be all glory!
