THE “TEN COMMANDMENTS”, FIRST AND FOREMOST, IS A COVENANT (OLD COVENANT) GIVEN TO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL AND NOT TO THE GENTILES. (Deu 4:13) “So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.”
AS A COVENANT IT HAD FEASTS, ORDINANCES AND STATUTES FOUND IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW OF MOSES.
WE GENTILES WHO ARE NOW IN CHRIST WERE NOT PART OF THE OLD COVENANT OF THE LAW (TEN COMMANDMENTS). WE BECAME SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ABRAHAM THROUGH THE “PROMISE” THAT GOD MADE TO FATHER ABRAHAM FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY YEAR BEFORE THE LAW WAS GIVEN TO MOSES; THAT HE WILL BE THE FATHER OF MANY NATIONS (Gen 17:3-5). THE PROMISE WAS FULFILLED THROUGH THE SEED OF ABRAHAM, WHO IS CHRIST.
(Gal 3:16) “The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ.
(Gal 3:17) What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise.
(Gal 3:18) For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
(Gal 3:19a) What, then, was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come.”
(Gal 3:21) Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.
(Gal 3:22) But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
(Gal 3:23) Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed.
(Gal 3:24) So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
(Gal 3:25) Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
(Gal 3:26) You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,
(Gal 3:27) for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
(Gal 3:28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
(Gal 3:29) If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
(Rom 4:14) For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and the promise is worthless,
(Rom 4:15) because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.
(Rom 4:16) Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
