Our Statement of Beliefs, Practices and Virtues (Part 2 of 6) – (644 words) (Think, Act and Be like Jesus) “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5: 17). “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20: 23). A. THE ROOT: With our Beliefs, We Think like JESUS “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23: 7). “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about these things.” (Philippians 4: 8). Our beliefs which are all based on the Bible – God’s Word – not only reside in our minds, but more importantly in our hearts. 6. CHILDREN OF GOD – “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1: 12). With our belief in Jesus Christ, we are loved, secured, significant, and worthy because of our position as children of God, heirs to His kingdom and dual citizen of the New Heaven and New Earth. 7. CHURCH – “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free – and we all given the one Spirit to drink.” (1 Corinthians 12: 12-13). We believe that the Church or the body of Christ – and we are part of it – is God’s primary means to accomplish his purposes here on earth. More important, the Church is who and what we are in between Sundays. 8. OBEDIENCE and COMPASSION – “To obey is better than sacrifice.” (1 Samuel 15: 22). “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (Colossians 3: 12). We believe that God calls all true Believers to show compassion to people in need. And we declare our love in Jesus Christ by obeying His commandments. True faith in God is obedience to God and vice versa. 9. STEWARDSHIP – “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously…. for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9: 6-8). Since God is our Creator, we believe that everything we are and everything we own belong to God. We are simply stewards, not owners, of God’s resources. We use our time, talent and treasure for the glory and honor of God and to love and serve others. 10. RESURRECTION and JUDGMENT – “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9: 27-28). We believe that there’s Heaven for the righteous and there’s Hell for the wicked. We also believe that Jesus Christ will come again to judge all people – living and dead – and to establish his eternal Kingdom where we will co-reign with Him. TRUE BELIEVERS IN JESUS CHRIST Statement of Beliefs, Practices and Virtues (Part 1 of 6) – (730 words) (Think, Act and Be like JESUS) “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5: 17). “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20: 23). A. Our beliefs which are all based on the Bible – God’s Word – not only reside in our minds, but more importantly in our hearts. 1. GOD – “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13: 14). We believe that the God of the Bible is the only true God: One Supreme Being in essence revealed in 3 Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – in perfect love and unity. 2. GOOD and PERSONAL GOD – “I lift my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121: 1-2). We believe that God cares for us, is involved in our daily lives for our own good, and we can have a personal, intimate and vibrant relationship with Him. 3. SIN and SALVATION – “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3: 22-23). “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2: 8-9). Sin means “to miss the mark” of God’s standard. It is also disobedience or rebellion against Holy God which breaks our relationship with Him. And sin covers both man’s inclination to do wrong and his inability to do right. We believe that we came into a right relationship with God – forgiven from all our sins, made righteous and holy in God’s sight, and saved from His wrath – by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ’s merit alone. 4. REPENTANCE and BAPTISM – “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3: 16). “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2: 38). We believe that all people have sinned, but all are loved by God. And all need Jesus Christ for their free gift of salvation to be in Heaven someday, forever and ever. Therefore, we repent – 180 degrees turn from sin to God – which is a change in our minds and hearts as evidenced by a change in our behaviors. We are also baptized to show our public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ as the only Savior of our soul and the Lord of our life. And we know that we are united with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection. So, we live by faith through the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit in us, who transforms us. 5. THE BIBLE or GOD’S WORD – “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, correction, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3: 16-17). We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of God that guides our beliefs and actions. The LORD is My RIGHTEOUSNESS (JEHOVAH – TSIDKENU)

“The days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6).

Yahweh + Havah = JEHOVAH = LORD = “Panginoon” = The Eternal God who is constantly revealing Himself to us

Prior to their imminent captivity in Babylon, sometime in 600 BC, the All-knowing God of the Bible told Jeremiah the following prophecies for us to know and heed:

1. Because of their unfaithfulness to God, the Israelites will be banished in various lands. (This occurred in 70 AD when Roman General Titus leveled Jerusalem, destroyed the Temple and the Jews were forced to disperse in various countries.)

2. Because of his mercy, the LORD will gather a remnant of Israelites out of different countries where they were driven. (After the Nazis massacred 6 million Jews in the early 1940’s, Israel became a nation in 1948 and many Jews from different countries settled back to the Promised Land.)

3. A righteous King from David’s line will save the Jews – militarily and spiritually – and Israel will live in safety. (This is still a future event when the Messiah – Prophet, High Priest and Divine King – comes back and reigns in righteousness in Jerusalem.)

Like the Israelites, we’re all unfaithful to God – sinners – and therefore, subject to God’s wrath.

So, how do you plan to be made right or be righteous in God’s sight? By your good works? By obeying the 10 Commandments? By performing rites like baptism, pilgrimage, etc.? By being a member of a religious organization? Intercession of someone?

Did you know that Jesus Christ is our righteousness, our holiness and our redemption? (1 Corinthians 1: 30).

And why? Because Jesus lived a life you and I should have lived – sinless. And Jesus died a death we should have died in order to take away and pay in full the penalty of all our sins – past, present and future. Finally, Jesus resurrected from the dead which means God accepted his once and for all sacrifice and so, like Jesus, we will also resurrect from the dead someday.

Hence, there’s only 1 right way to be made right with God – through faith in Jesus Christ and what He has done for us alone.

To date, God is still offering this free Gift or great exchange: All of your sins will be imputed/credited to Jesus Christ and Jesus’ righteousness will be imputed/credited to you through faith alone, once you believe and accept Him as your Savior and LORD.

Have you believed in JEHOVAH – TSIDKENU and accepted God’s Gift of Righteousness so that you will surely get to Heaven someday for all eternity? Have you shared the good news – Jesus Christ and what He has done for us – to your friends? Why not?

The LORD is My SHEPHERD (JEHOVAH – RAAH)

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.” (Psalm 23: 1).

Yahweh + Havah = JEHOVAH = LORD = “Panginoon” = The Eternal God who is constantly revealing Himself to us

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalm 23: 1-4, 6).

This psalm or song was composed by David – considered as Israel’s greatest king. However, in one episode of his life, David broke 5 of the 10 Commandments of God: He saw a married woman, Bathsheba, bathing and he covets her; He stole Bathsheba from her rightful husband, Uriah, one of David’s able generals; He committed adultery with her; He murdered Uriah; and then, He lied to cover up his crimes.

However, when Nathan, the godly prophet, confronted and rebuked powerful King David of his sins, he repented. David asked God for mercy and he was totally forgiven. To date, David is known as “a man after God’s own heart”.

Did you know that Jesus Christ (the Root of David as God and the Son of David as Man) is the Good Shepherd who gave his life for his sheep? (John 10: 11). He did it, so that you and I may have eternal life with God in Heaven someday. As our model for leading by love, Jesus Christ is JEHOVAH-RAAH who is faithfully and truly shepherding His flock – Believers – in this world.

Like sheep, many of us are meek, affectionate, unaggressive, defenseless, and in constant need of supervision and care.

However, when we accepted resurrected Jesus Christ as the Savior of our soul and LORD of our life, an amazing, life-changing relationship begun. And God’s grace-filled promises are made available for us: God will never leave us nor forsake us; He will provide everything we need; He will heal our infirmities; and there’s nothing we can do to stop His unconditional love for us as God’s adopted children.

Unfortunately, we are still in this sin-fallen world and will experience hurts, trials and tribulation. But then, one day, all of these will come to an end and we’ll experience a pain-free and love-filled life in Heaven, forever and ever.

Now, while we’re still here on earth, our newfound Father-Child relationship with God comes with a responsibility and commitment to love God and our neighbor. This we do by reaching out in love to those who still don’t know Jesus Christ.

And as we are being transformed by Jesus’ Spirit, out of love, we are eager to share that this broken world is not all there is to life. Why? Because for all Believers, someday, there’s surely be Heaven with God – the ultimate unending love, joy, prosperity, and peace – that is waiting for us. To God be all glory!
